“The best way to accomplish
serious design...
is to be totally and completely
unqualified for the job.”
— Paula Scher

An artistic influence of mine, and many others, is graphic designer Paula Scher. People often say that you can't walk through the streets of New York without coming across her work, and I find that even on the other side of the country, her work speaks to me as someone who is interested in postmodern design. I am inspired by her impactful use of type, and simple but provoking imagery. Scher has accomplished an extremely diverse range of projects over her career, from designing slogans on school walls to creating the Citibank logo to producing branding for The Public Theater. After watching a documentary about her, I admired her commitment to doing new things despite being extremely accomplished and part of the industry for so long. Her attitude towards design is refreshing, and something that I believe will be important to carry with me through my own career.
